Elect Bill Watson As Lowndes County Coroner

Primary elections will be held July 31, 2012

Mr. Watson is the current incumbent in this year's election for Lowndes County Coroner and has already proven to be a great asset to the community while serving in his current role. Since 2008, he has proven himself to be an outstanding example of professionalism, while maintaining the compassion that is required to be an effective on-scene liaison between grieving families and law enforcement officers. As a public servant of Lowndes County, Georgia himself, Mr. Watson performs his current Coroner duties with skill and proficiency, a promise made and upheld by him before his election in 2008. As an experienced leader in the Valdosta community, voters would find it a difficult task to find a more qualified, dedicated candidate for this elected position.

~Duties Of The Coroner~

The coroner's primary responsibility is to determine the manner of death involving decedents within the jurisdiction of Lowndes County. Mr. Watson must determine if a death involved violence, unexplained or suspicious circumstances, and provide a course of action when a person has been found dead. He must work with law enforcement agencies to investigate these types of deaths, and make decisions based on clearly outlined laws as to whether or not an autopsy is needed or required on a case-by-case basis. Mr. Watson is also responsible for all related paperwork, including the issuance of death certificates.

Did you know?

That the office of the coroner began in Medieval England shortly after the Norman Conquest in September of 1194. The office was designed to “keep the pleas of the Crown” and the primary duty was to protect the financial interest of the crown in criminal proceedings.
